Building Green CPH 2025: “Scaling for Enough” Sets New Standard for Sustainability in Architecture

Building Green CPH, the Nordic region’s leading event on sustainability in architecture and the built environment, is proud to announce that Bjarke Ingels, founder of BIG, will deliver one of the key presentations at its 2025 event on October 29-30 at Lokomotivværkstedet. This year’s theme, “Scaling for Enough,” challenges architects and designers to envision growth with restraint: how do we scale innovation while respecting planetary limits?

Internationally-recognized speakers across the design spectrum

As industry pressure mounts, with climate goals, material shortages, and housing needs all pressing, Bjarke Ingels and fellow international speakers such as Anupama Kundoo (professor, Technische Universität Berlin) and Kjetil Trædal Thorsen (Snøhetta) will share ambitious projects that inform and inspire. The program spans five stages and includes 25 % English-language content, reflecting Building Green’s growing international audience.

What is enough?

“Scaling for Enough” explores questions central to the architecture profession: When is something too much? How can design respond to both ecological boundaries and societal needs such as affordable housing? Thorsen (Snøhetta), known for his paradigm-pushing designs, will anchor these discussions.

BIG in Conversation: Scaling Solutions for a Finite World

What does it take to scale sustainability within architecture in a world of limited resources?

In conversation with award-winning author and journalist Michael Booth, Bjarke Ingels will reflect on BIG’s role in shaping projects that balance local and global impact. The dialogue explores how Denmark’s sustainability ideals can align with global needs for housing and development, and expand quality of life while staying within planetary boundaries.

Building Green CPH 2025 promises a program with both visionary architecture and grounded solutions: from small pioneering projects to large-scale implementations. Registrations are now open — and free. Media and architecture enthusiasts want to secure their place.

Why This Matters

In an era defined by climate emergencies, growing social and economic inequality, and the increasing scarcity of materials and resources, the way we design and construct our built environment can no longer be measured by conventional metrics alone. Success can no longer be equated with sheer scale, speed, or profit; it must be measured by resilience, fairness, and the long-term health of both people and planet.

Building Green CPH is dedicated to redefining these standards. They are committed to elevating not just what we can build, but what we should build: projects that serve communities, respect ecological limits, and anticipate the needs of future generations.
