Navigating Uncertainty – Hope through Action
At a time marked by geopolitical unrest, unstable supply chains and changing requirements, the construction industry is facing a new reality in which decisions must be made on increasingly uncertain ground. The climate is changing rapidly, and there is growing concern about planetary tipping points that could accelerate these developments. The EU is introducing new regulation and documentation requirements, but the direction is not stable. Some initiatives are postponed or revised as other priorities take precedence. At the same time, biodiversity is under pressure and global ecosystems are becoming increasingly unstable.
The construction industry amid rising tensions
There is no shortage of uncertainty, and we cannot remove it. But uncertainty must not become a barrier to the green transition. Instead, it should be used as a starting point for action and new solutions. This is the starting point when Building Green CPH opens its doors at Lokomotivværkstedet in Copenhagen on 28-29 October under this year’s theme: “Navigating Uncertainty – Hope Through Action”.
The construction industry is closely connected to global change, and uncertainty is playing an increasingly significant role – both in day-to-day practice and in strategic decision-making. Around 40% of global CO₂ emissions come from buildings and construction, and the sector is responsible for substantial material consumption. At the same time, the industry is characterised by long planning horizons, major investments and a high dependence on global economic conditions.
