About Session

Recent research from Germany has revealed that roughly one light is left shining outdoors after midnight for every person in the country. The resulting light pollution is known to have serious consequences for biodiversity, especially for migrating birds and insects. This talk will briefly present the evidence for each of these facts, and then show via examples how more careful design can dramatically reduce the impact of light on biodiversity, while having either no impact or positive impact on the experience of humans using the space.
