The Scandinavian conference Build in Wood is coming to Hamburg!

Wood as a sustainable building material raises some questions regarding sustainability and climate impact. How do we work with wood as part of achieving climate goals in the future, and how do we ensure sustainability?

On the 6-7 September 2022, we welcome you to the first edition of the Build in Wood conference in Germany, and invite you to meet with architects, engineers, and planners. Together with knowledge partners, German as well as international experts, you will be part of two days with newest knowledge, knowledge sharing, updates, and important networking across the timber construction value chain.

With Build in Wood in Hamburg 2022, we introduce a platform for knowledge sharing within wood and construction in Germany. You will learn how we can build more and better buildings – small and large – with wood. The program focuses on challenges, possibilities, and solutions, and you will be inspired through projects from both Germany and Scandinavia.

The main language of the conference is German. International speakers will speak English.

WOOD – A SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL

Wood as a sustainable building material raises some questions regarding sustainability and climate impact. How do we work with wood as part of achieving climate goals in the future, and how do we ensure sustainability? You will be presented with presentations that look at wood as construction material and what role it plays in terms of CO2 footprint in construction projects.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION IN HAMBURG

Building with wood in Hamburg has been on a distinct journey the last decade and Hamburg has somehow become a center of wood construction. You will learn about the environment for wood construction in Hamburg, hear from the researchers, and learn from experts that has been part of this journey the last 10 years. What has happened and how do they see the future of building with wood in the future.

TALL WOOD BUILDINGS

The last 10 years we have experienced more tall wood buildings. Especially in Scandinavia several projects have been built in up to over 10 storages – 1 even in 18 storages – and are designed as multi-function buildings. What are the challenges in designing and building these tall wooden buildings and how is it different from other materials?

STRATEGIES OF ACOUSTICS & FIRE SECURITY

How to design solutions for fire security and acoustic levels in wood buildings are often mentioned as challenging. The different approaches to both fire security and sounds in a wooden building result in different consequences and therefor solutions. At the conference you will learn and get inspiration from experts in Scandinavian on how to solve and meet these challenges.

THE POTENTIAL – FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES

Wood as a construction material gives us a lot of opportunities and has a great potential in terms of sustainability, healthiness, design, and architecture. You will learn from different perspectives about the potential of building with wood, what you must take into consideration, and how learning from each other is an important part of more wood construction.

What’s in it for you?

  • Insights into the latest trends, challenges and opportunities within wood construction and architecture
  • Knowledge of co-2 imprints in wood construction
  • Knowledge about the conditions for wood in Hamburg
  • Fact-based overview of the latest knowledge
  • Practical and inspiring examples of interesting wood projects
  • Network, community and partnerships within the stakeholders in the industry
